Devlog #1 Working on 1.3!
Hello to all my Menu Mania fans out there! That's right, all 6 of you!
This is my first devlog, despite technically updating it to 1.1 in the past. (checks watch) oh geez, it's been 9 months? Long time no see, I guess. Anyway gamers, it is 3:00am as I am writing this devlog to have a permanent reminder that I am committing to a 1.3, so if there isn't one soon, I can judge myself forever!
Onto the plan!
Menu Mania kind of had a story, but it was mostly improvised since the original build was made in 2 days straight! Well, I now have a lore document to base new info off of, as well as rewriting some old text to fit my new story! It's not something I can share exactly, but I am IN LOVE with writing this story. I'm a huge fan of puns and wordplay, so as an example of that, I wrote a worldbuilding doc in December about a world made by 3 brother deities. So when I was thinking of names the people of this world would refer to this trifecta, I came up with three insane ideas. There was The Threities, The Trifratriarchy and the Allthree. I'm obsessed with that second one.
Anyway, Menu Mania is now a small piece of an actual world with room for other games in this setting, tackling similar issues from another angle. No promises for now, though.
Spoilers I guess.
I plan to add mainly quality of life additions to 1.3, since basically every person I showed this game needed me to point them in the right direction, and a game needs to be able to fairly do that on its own.
These changes include:
- a log to track which passwords you've found
- adding a skip button to the credits that take forever after seeing them once
- adding a tool after the first ending to help find secrets in subsequent playthroughs
- fixing the star system to not carry over from previous playthroughs, which should also fix the wizard's similar issues
- a custom cursor made by me in Aseprite
- changing the exit button to just reset progress and take you to the Settings screen, so it doesn't take you out of it too hard
- adding one of those "are you sure?" windows to previously mentioned exit button
- adding a true quit button to the Settings screen
That's all for now! If this doesn't release then Shame on Me! It's probably going to release though.
Also the cover image is just a spear dude I made a little while ago! What should his name be?
